Job description

We are currently working with an organisation who are undertaking a significant Oracle Finance and HR system programme designed to enhance their current Oracle Cloud solution, implement legislative updates, and deliver a full system re-implementation. The programme also includes implementing a new Income Management System and transitioning schools off the Oracle platform.

The PMO Programme Planner will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful delivery of this programme by developing, maintaining, and actively managing comprehensive programme and workstream plans. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of PMO, work stream leads, and project managers to document outcomes, key milestones, dependencies, assumptions, and risks, while ensuring plans align with programme objectives.

Location: Birmingham

Working Arrangements: Predominantly Remote Working with Occasional office visits to Birmingham City Centre

Contract Duration: 6 Months

Day Rate: £500.00 Outside IR35

Start Date:ASAP

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage, and maintain integrated programme plans and individual work stream plans.

  • Define and document key programme milestones, dependencies, assumptions, and constraints.

  • Collaborate with workstream leads to ensure consistency in planning and reporting across all areas of the programme.

  • Support resource management planning, using forecasting techniques to align resource needs with programme objectives.

  • Lead planning sessions, using a variety of techniques, to break down complex delivery into manageable work packages.

  • Monitor and report progress against plans, ensuring accurate documentation of any variations and potential risks.

  • Implement robust risk management processes and adhere to governance procedures for reporting and escalation.

  • Maintain detailed programme documentation, including critical paths, stage gates, and sensitivity analyses.

  • Regularly update and refine plans to reflect actual progress and evolving project requirements.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Over 7 years of experience in programme planning, including 3 years within a PMO function, for programmes with an annual budget exceeding £25 million.

  • Proficiency in project planning tools such as MS Project and agile tools like JIRA.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.

  • Proven experience producing professional documents for governance forums and boards.

  • Skilled in risk management and supporting others in applying risk management processes.

  • Ability to work independently under pressure, balancing competing demands in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and present complex project data.

  • Proficient in MS Office, SharePoint, and MS Project.
