Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a Top 40 University with c. 20,000 students in the South East of England, who are recruiting for an Information Assurance Officer on a temporary 3-month contract, with the potential to go permanent. The rate is negotiable dependant on experience.

This role will play a key role in ensuring that University policies and procedures comply with UK GDPR, EU GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA), Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR) in order to minimise the risks of regulatory or legal exposure.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Managing the operational governance framework across the group

  • Overseeing the annual cycle of governance activities which includes ensuring compliance with our regulatory and statutory obligations

  • Leading and managing communications within the team and more widely support the Head of Governance, Risk and Assurance

  • Keeping up to date with good practice in Governance and Regulatory compliance, recommending and implementing changes for continual growth

  • Set clear expectations of all individuals, discussing performance regularly to motivate and live our culture and values

Experience required:

  • Experience of managing and responding to information requests e.g. FOI requests and/or SAR 

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • BA Honours degree or professional equivalent 

  • An understanding of the data protection & Freedom of Information legal frameworks including records management 

  • Able to work independently and act on own initiative on policy and operational matters 

  • Excellent inter-personal, training and presentation skills. Ability to present complex information in a clear manner to internal university groups and committees
