Job description
We are currently working in partnership with a Charity based in Oxfordshire, who are recruiting for a Homeless Support Worker on a temporary contract until the End of March 2025. The position is due to start immediately and the hourly rate of pay is negotiable up to £17.70 via an Umbrella company.
The ideal candidate will be empathetic and be able to communicate clearly with vulnerable homeless clients. They will need to have an Enhanced DBS certificate, or be happy to have one carried out, and have access to their own car.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Work within the service to provide support to a caseload of vulnerable homeless clients with medium – high support needs
- To assess and manage risk for individuals and in the service, making use of emergency services as required
- To make and maintain Housing Benefit claims and support clients to pay their service charges regularly
- Carry out daily welfare checks on residents
- To be a supportive and effective part of the team working as part of a rota
- Accompany tenants to appointments for probation / doctors / hospital etc.
- Visit the drug and alcohol service twice per week and signpost tenants off to other services when required
Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Expertise required:
- Experience required in Social Housing
- Experience working with vulnerable customers including those at risk of homelessness
- Welfare and Benefits knowledge
- Support Plans and Risk assessments
- Experience supporting a caseload of vulnerable clients
- Signposting
Working hours:
- 37.00 hours per week
- Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm
