Job description
We are currently partnering with a leading law firm in the UK specialising in providing legal services to public sector and not-for-profit organisations., who are recruiting for a Senior Lawyer to join their growing team on a permanent basis.
This is available as a full-time or part time position with a salary band of £49,500 to £56,750 (subject to experience) and the start date is subject to notice.
The role is mainly based in the East Midlands with need to travel to other offices as required.
The overall purpose of the role is to provide a range of public sector and not for profit clients with high quality professional, proactive and innovative legal service predominantly regarding commercial, contracts, procurement, trading and corporate law and other areas of legal practice where necessary.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
Providing legal advice on commercial, contracts, procurement and corporate law to ensure client compliance with statutory obligations
Preparing, negotiate and advise on legal projects involving multiple agencies, including charities and third-sector organisations
Offering legal and procedural support to client Committees and Directorates to promote strong corporate governance
Managing a broad caseload of both simple and complex legal matters
Deputising for the Principal Lawyer and assist in managing the Commercial Team
Representing clients in negotiations with third parties on relevant legal matters
Supporting client relationships and contribute to training and development initiatives for colleagues
Ensuring compliance with internal practice management, including time recording and billing
Experience required:
At least 10 years post qualification experience of corporate and commercial work, preferably gained in a Local Authority or public sector setting
Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales or member of the Bar who has completed pupillage or qualified Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives or Chartered Legal Executive
Experience of advising on corporate and company matters, particularly in the social enterprise sphere
Skills, knowledge and expertise required:
Ability to conduct legal research, interpret legislation and summarise the key points of relevant legislation and case law in a clear and client friendly manner
Experience of dealing with complex cases concerning procurement legislation, contract law and commercial law
Ability to develop client relationships and identify areas for expansion of work
Involvement in the negotiating and drafting of complex PFI and other contracts

Full time (37 hours a week) or part time (minimum 30 hours a week)
