Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a Higher Educational Institution based in East London who are recruiting for a ER Manager on a 3 month temporary contract. The position is due to start in the last week of September, with the potential to go full time. The hourly rate of pay is negotiable based upon experience.

The ideal candidate will have extensive ER casework experience with the ability to deal with multiple cases at one given time, ranging from sickness to disciplinaries. The candidate must also have Higher Educational experience.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Ensuring the organisations treatment of employees is consistent with its core business values and objectives

  • Managing employee relations disciplinary cases, working with the relevant managers, staff and trades union representatives and to liaise with Northeastern University London legal advisors on casework issues as appropriate

  • Working with the HR Advisor on the management of sickness absence, performance management, exit interview information etc

  • Handling employee complaints, managing grievance procedures, and facilitating mediation with other stakeholders. Preparation of cases for Employment Tribunals if required

  • Investigating and resolving complex or critical employee relations issues in a timely and effective manner

  • Advising on and positively encourage the application of best practice in employment matters with regard to equality and diversity objective

  • Managing and maintaining the casework tracker and provide reports as and when required to the Senior management team

  • Maintaining a good working knowledge of UK and EU employment legislation and case law

Experience required:

  • Experience of working in an HR department, specialising in employee relations issues (specifically casework)

  • Experience of investigating complex disciplinary and grievance issues

  • Experience of mediation to produce the optimum outcome for all involved

  • Experience of working within Higher Education

  • Proficient IT skills, including Google Suite and Office 365

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Team player who can work independently

  • In depth employment legislation knowledge

  • Excellent written and verbal communications and strong interpersonal skills to deal with individuals at various levels, and on potentially sensitive matters
