Job description

We are currently supporting a university based in the West Midlands, who are recruiting for an ER Lead on a temporary to permanent basis. They are looking for the ideal candidate to start the first week of October and are paying an hourly rate £35-£45ph depending on experience.

The ideal candidate will Successful track record in managing employee relations and knowledge of UK employment law and future trends.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop and maintain a positive and productive work climate and high levels of employee engagement working with managers

  • Co-ordination and execution of change projects to ensure that they are managed to a high standard and the necessary policies

  • Monitor, analyse and report on employee relations data and identify appropriate performance metrics and interventions to improve the employee relations climate

  • Proactively work with HRBP colleagues and OD to address issues arising from ER casework trends

  • ER capability building across the department, working with the ER team and others to manage and monitor the type, complexity and volume of ER cases with a view to diagnose and advise

  • Scan the external environment to identify changes in policy, economic and other social issues which may affect trends in employee relations and proactively anticipate issues

  • Build on relationships with the recognised trade unions to enhance constructive staff relationships

Experience required:

  • A strong track record across a wide range of ER matters, working in unionised environment

  • An understanding of the UK higher education sector and the issues currently facing universities

  • Experience of talent management and developing complex succession management plans

  • Project management skills with experience of successfully developing and managing complex change programmes and projects

  • Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Excellent negotiation, influencing, persuasion and networking skills

  • Commercially aware and the ability to assess and manage risk

  • Good IT skills, including self-reliance in MS Office applications
